Hi everyone, I am pleased to give you a short update once again about our past week 🙂
There is quite a lot going on at our place, many things have been prepared last week, which should serve as a foundation for the coming years. Much of it is of an administrative nature. Not always very exciting, but equally important 🙂
Otherwise, the current focus is on the encyclopedia. For this purpose, a “master document” has been created, where every task is listed, which still has to be done. With this, each of us knows how the current state of the encyclopedia looks like and what he still has to do. We will certainly also keep you updated about the status of the encyclopedia and whenever we reach a milestone show you a part of it. I was almost solely responsible for the prototype. But now the whole team is involved for the completion of the encyclopedia. I will mainly focus on collecting information, Elio will prepare all maps and Marc will help with writing the entries. There is still a lot to do, but we have often proven that we can deliver extremely good performances as a team in a short amount of time. I am convinced that we will succeed once again 🙂
The ongoing, close contact with the manufacturer is very important at this stage. Most of the details about the encyclopedia were already decided before the campaign. However, there were still some details, such as the type of paper, which had to be decided. To help the decision making, we received many copies of various books that helped us to define the perfect form and material for the encyclopedia. We are always happy when we can let our supporters be involved in the decisions. However, when deciding on the type of paper, it is often a matter of “feeling” the material. I must also honestly admit that the decision is even difficult when you have the sample copies in your hands. I had great difficulty in distinguishing between the paper types Silk and Matt XD Here you have to trust us that we went for the best possible solution 🙂 we want the encyclopedia to have a high value. Since we have now decided on all remaining details, we can submit a final cost proposal next week.
Our world is home to fascinating animal species, each with its own unique story to tell. One animal that has always fascinated me is the kea that Rozenn has recently drawn. The kea is a parrot species unique to New Zealand, which is known to be very intelligent and loves to pull things apart (like rubber parts of cars). A video from National Geographic, which proves its intelligence, has always fascinated me.
Unfortunately, the kea is threatened by extinction. The population is estimated between 3000 and 7000 individuals. This is sad when you consider that until 1970, more than 150’000 keas were hunted by humans. The great thing about the encyclopedia is that we have the possibility to dedicate a place for the stories of the animals and to inform people about many fascinating species.
Marc took care of some important matters this week. One of them, which directly affects the project, is the final clarification of how to set up the Pledge Manager. For this he has been in direct contact with the people who developed the Pledge Manager and now knows what it takes to implement the Pledge Manager perfectly. This will also be one of his most important tasks in the next week. The goal is to be able to send out the survey to the backers by the end of next week at the latest. Marc will tell you more about this in the next update. Maybe he can also give you a little insight what it takes to set up the Pledge Manager.
During our last Kickstarter campaign, we’ve contacted several social media channels that focus on animals, dinosaurs, and evolution. The goal was to ask if a post about our project would be possible. We met some great people who were extremely supportive and positive about our project. I would like to refer especially to an Instagram account, which I myself follow relatively closely. It is called “evolution soup” and posts regularly about interesting topics concerning evolution. In today’s world, where everything is handled very superficially, it is really great to see exceptions. The people behind the channel take a lot of time to prepare the posts, give interesting information about fossil specimens and therefore I can only recommend having a look at the channel 🙂
I will keep the tradition Marc started last week and present you my soundtrack of the week 😀 So what I’m currently listening is the soundtrack of the strategy game “Surviving Mars”. Especially the song “Now Is the Time” is a very uplifting song 🙂 The funny part is that I never played the game XD but the soundtrack is very good to focus on work and still enjoy the music.
With this I hope you will have a great week and hear each other soon again 😊!
All the best,
Samuel, Marc and Elio
